IKO Roof Repair in San Diego: What to Know First
IKO roof repair in San Diego typically runs $350 to $1,100 depending on whether you’re dealing with a small shingle replacement, a failed flashing point, or a leak that’s worked into the decking. Most IKO repairs we handle are done in a single visit, and you’ll have a written price in hand before a single shingle comes off. Grant Whitlock and the crew at Mercer Roofing Co San Diego have repaired IKO Cambridge, Dynasty, and Nordic roofs across San Diego for years, and we treat every IKO job as its own animal because, honestly, it is. If you’ve got a leak, curling shingles, or granule loss on an IKO roof, call (619) 810-5520 and we’ll get it sorted. This page is for IKO owners who want to understand what’s happening above their ceiling before they spend a dime.
How IKO Products Fail and How We Fix Them
Every shingle brand fails in its own way. Here’s what we see on IKO roofs in San Diego specifically, and what we do about it.
- Cambridge granule loss on west-facing slopes. IKO Cambridge is a solid architectural shingle, but the afternoon sun off the Pacific can bake the asphalt on west exposures harder than people expect. The granules release faster than the shingle wears, which leaves bald gray patches that look worse than they are. We replace those shingles before water finds the mat underneath. In Clairemont Mesa and Mission Valley, this is the IKO repair we do most.
- Dynasty seal strip failures on shallow pitches. The Dynasty line uses a larger exposure, which is great for looks. But we’ve seen the thermal seal let go on slopes shallower than about 4:12, especially near the coast where fog cycles bake then cool the shingle face. Once the seal breaks, wind gets under the edge and lifts shingles. We hand-seal or replace the loose ones, depending on how far the damage has spread.
- Nordic shingle brittleness at the eaves. IKO Nordic is a premium laminate with a heavier mat, but that rigidity means less flex. On older Nordic roofs near the coast, we see cracking where roofers over-drove the original fasteners. The shingle doesn’t flex around the nail head, so it splits. Our fix is carefully pulling the bad shingles, checking the decking beneath, and reinstalling to IKO’s nailing spec rather than firing nails in on maximum air pressure.
- Valley failures on IKO roofs with woven valleys. A surprising number of IKO roofs in San Diego were installed with woven valleys instead of cut valleys or metal. Woven valleys wear faster because the shingles physically rub against each other as the deck moves. We convert worn woven valleys to open metal valleys using a quality 26-gauge steel, which typically outlasts the surrounding shingle field.
- Vent boot and pipe collar cracking at year seven or eight. This isn’t IKO-specific, but the rubber collars that seal plumbing vents degrade fast in San Diego’s sun. On IKO roofs, we see boot failures reported as “leaks” when the shingles around them are fine. A $180 vent boot replacement beats a $400 drywall patch every time.

Our IKO Roof Repair Process
- 1
You call or schedule online. A real person answers, even at 2 a.m. We take down what you’re seeing: the stain on the ceiling, the granule pile in the gutter, the shingle you found in the yard.
- 2
We send you who’s coming. Before the tech arrives, you get their name and photo. When they ring the bell, they hand you a photo ID badge to check against it. No surprises at the door.
- 3
The diagnostic walk. Our tech gets on the roof and traces the actual source, not just the symptom. IKO roofs can channel water oddly, so we check the flashing, the fasteners, and the underlayment at every suspect point.
- 4
The written price. We put the scope and the dollar figure in writing before any work starts. If we find real IKO match shingles locally, we price them. If we need to order, we tell you the source and the wait.
- 5
The repair. We use IKO-spec fastening and sealant, not whatever’s on the truck. When IKO shingles are available locally in San Diego, we use them. When they’re not, we’ll show you a quality aftermarket match and get your approval first.
- 6
The test and the guarantee. We water-test what we can, clean up every nail and scrap, then hand you a written 365-day guarantee. If a repair fails within a year, we come back free and make it right.

Here’s what we charge, in real dollars, so you can price the problem before you call.
- Single shingle or small patch replacement: $350 to $550
- Leak repair with flashing replacement: $500 to $800
- Valley rehabilitation (woven to metal): $700 to $1,100

What moves the number: roof pitch (anything over 6:12 takes longer and needs safety gear for the crew), whether the decking is rotted, and how hard it is to source matching IKO shingles in the current San Diego supply chain. Every price is written down, signed off, and locked before a nail goes in. Call (619) 810-5520 for a free estimate.
Why San Diego Homeowners Call Mercer Roofing Co San Diego for IKO Work
As an independent IKO service provider, we’re not tied to the manufacturer’s script. We fix what’s actually failing on your roof, even when the factory warranty doesn’t cover it. Every tech who steps onto your property is background-checked, identity-verified, uniformed, and badged under the Threshold Verified standard; it’s the same standard we’ve held ourselves to since Mercer Roofing was founded in 2000 as part of the Threshold Group family. We also work with GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed systems, which matters when a hybrid repair makes more sense or IKO stock isn’t available. And on every IKO repair we do, you get the 365-Day Done Right Promise, plus a written guarantee. A roof shouldn’t be something you worry about; that’s what we’re here for.
FAQs
No, a repair by an independent contractor does not automatically void an IKO limited warranty. The warranty covers manufacturing defects, not storm damage or normal wear. What can void it is improper installation, so we follow IKO’s nailing, seal, and fastener specs on every repair, and we document the work with photos you can keep for your records. If you’re ever filing a claim, you’ll have proof the roof was touched correctly. Call (619) 810-5520 if you’d like us to look at a specific section before you call IKO.
Sometimes, and we’ll be straight with you when we can’t. IKO has discontinued certain colors in the Cambridge and Dynasty lines over the years, and San Diego distributors may not carry every one. When an exact match isn’t available, we’ll show you two or three close matches and give you our honest opinion on which will look least noticeable from the street. We don’t order a “close enough” shingle without your sign-off.
Cambridge and Dynasty account for most of our IKO repair work in San Diego, with Nordic and Royal Estate appearing on higher-end homes. Cambridge is the most common simply because it’s been the most widely sold. The failure modes differ: Dynasty has larger exposures and seal-strip quirks on shallow slopes, while Nordic’s heavier mat makes it less tolerant of over-driven fasteners.
For active leaks, we typically schedule within a few days, and we’ll start with a diagnostic visit so you know exactly what you’re dealing with. A live person answers our phones 24/7 at (619) 810-5520, so you won’t sit through a voicemail tree while water moves through your ceiling.
That depends on age and extent. If the IKO shingles are fifteen years old or younger and the failure is localized, repair almost always makes sense. If you’re seeing granule loss across the whole roof, curling at every eave, or water damage in multiple rooms, replacement may cost less than chasing leaks each winter. We’ll tell you plainly which one you need and price both if you ask, with no pressure toward the bigger number.
