CertainTeed Gutter Replacement: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
CertainTeed gutter replacement in San Diego typically runs $9 to $18 per linear foot installed, which puts a standard 150-foot home between $1,350 and $2,700, with most jobs completed in a single day. We stock CertainTeed-compatible gutter sections, end caps, and hangers on our trucks, so we can usually match your existing profile without a multi-week wait. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: they see a sagging run pulling away from the fascia after a winter storm, or they notice water spilling over the edge instead of flowing to the downspout. The gutter itself rarely “fails” all at once. It separates, corrodes at the seams, or gets crushed by a ladder or a fallen branch, and suddenly the water that used to leave quietly is eating at your stucco and foundation.
Grant Whitlock, our owner, walks every gutter job himself before the first bracket comes off. In San Diego’s coastal neighborhoods like Point Loma and La Jolla, salt air accelerates aluminum corrosion. In Clairemont Mesa and Mission Valley, the bigger enemy is leaf debris piling up and holding moisture against the gutter for months. Both problems end the same way: a replacement section is the cleanest fix.
- Typical installed cost: $9 – $18 per linear foot, depending on gutter size and accessibility
- What’s included: removal of the failed section, new CertainTeed-compatible gutter matched to your profile, hangers, end caps, and sealant
- Timeframe: most single-run replacements finish same day
- Warranty: every replacement is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise, in writing
Before you call, grab a photo of the failed area and, if you can, measure the width across the top of the gutter. Five-inch K-style is the most common in San Diego, but CertainTeed also makes six-inch profiles for larger roof sections. That one detail saves us a trip back to the truck.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To
CertainTeed’s most common gutter line in San Diego is the K-style aluminum gutter, available in five-inch and six-inch widths. The five-inch profile handles most residential homes, while six-inch is used on steep roofs or sections with heavy runoff. Both use the same hanger spacing, the same hidden hanger bracket system, and the same end-cap dimensions if you’re matching within the same width. The compatibility gotcha we see again and again: homeowners assume all five-inch gutters are identical, but the profile depth and the hanger channel vary between manufacturers. A generic big-box gutter section will not seat properly against CertainTeed’s hangers, and the miters at the corners will never line up cleanly. That’s the number one reason we replace with CertainTeed-compatible sections rather than whatever’s on sale.
Aftermarket aluminum sections can work fine if they match the profile and gauge, but we prefer factory-matched CertainTeed components for two reasons: the paint finish matches better after two or three years of San Diego sun, and the hanger channel tolerances are consistent. When we’re doing a full gutter replacement, we’ll often pair CertainTeed gutters with their downspouts and miters as well. If you’re replacing a single damaged run, we match the existing profile exactly. The difference matters more than most people think.
We also work with GAF and Owens Corning gutter accessories where those are already installed. Our goal is to match what you have, not to sell you a brand change. Mercer Roofing Co San Diego is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with CertainTeed, but we install and repair their products every week.

Signs Your CertainTeed Gutter Replacement Is Failing
- Sagging or pulling away from the fascia. The hidden hangers have either pulled loose from the wood or the aluminum has stretched at the fastener points. This lets water run behind the gutter and down the wall instead of into it. When you can see daylight between the gutter and the fascia, that run is done.
- Water spilling over the front edge during ordinary rain. The gutter isn’t just clogged. It’s sized wrong for the roof section, or the pitch has flattened over the years and water pools instead of draining. A replacement with proper slope fixes what snaking and flushing can’t.
- Rust streaks or pinhole leaks along the bottom. Aluminum doesn’t rust, but the steel screws in certain aftermarket hangers do, and the rust eats through the gutter from the inside. By the time you see the brown stain on the outside, the bottom is perforated.
- Separated seams at the end caps or miters. The factory sealant has a finite life in Southern California heat cycles. Once a seam opens, it’s not a caulk fix. The metal has moved, and water will keep finding its way through.
- Mold or mildew staining on the wall directly beneath the roofline. Your gutter has been bypassing water for weeks or months. The visible staining is the last symptom to show up, not the first. The damage behind the stucco is usually further along than the stain suggests.
If you’re seeing any of these, take a photo and call us. A one-section replacement is a lot cheaper than a rotten fascia board, and a lot cheaper than foundation work.

Let’s put real numbers on the table. In San Diego, a single-run CertainTeed-compatible gutter replacement, meaning a complete removal of the old section and installation of a new one with all hardware, typically runs:
- Single run up to 30 linear feet: $270 – $540
- Half the home, 60 – 90 linear feet: $540 – $1,620
- Full home, 150 – 200 linear feet: $1,350 – $3,600
What changes the price: one-story versus two-story access, the condition of the fascia wood underneath, whether downspouts need replacing at the same time, and whether we’re matching a standard color or something custom. CertainTeed’s stock colors like white, clay, and musket brown are the most affordable. Special-order colors add a few days and a modest upcharge.
Every quote we give in San Diego is a written, line-item price. You’ll see the cost of the gutter sections, the hangers, the removal, and the labor as separate numbers before we touch a ladder. No change orders. No “we found more once we got up there.” And every replacement carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right within a year, we come back and make it right, free. That’s in writing, every time.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a gutter section is not dangerous in the way that installing a gas line or rewiring a panel is. It won’t kill you if you get it wrong. But it will leak if you get it wrong, and you’ll be back on a ladder in six months doing it again. The three things that go wrong for DIYers in San Diego: mismatched profiles that leave a gap at the seam, hangers spaced too far apart so the gutter sags under its first full load, and sealant applied to a dirty surface that fails after one season. If you have a single clean break and easy one-story access, and you can find the exact CertainTeed profile, it’s a possible weekend project. If not, the most useful thing you can do is clear the debris while you wait for us, so we can see the metal itself and give you an accurate written quote. Call (619) 810-5520. We’ll walk the whole gutter system while we’re there, not just the failed section, and tell you honestly what needs replacing now and what can wait.
A roof shouldn’t be something you worry about – that’s what we’re here for.
FAQs
In San Diego’s climate, a properly installed CertainTeed aluminum gutter should last 20 to 30 years. The coastal areas take a few years off that due to salt air accelerating corrosion at the seams and fastener points. Inland areas like Clairemont Mesa and Mission Valley, away from the marine layer, tend to get the full lifespan as long as debris doesn’t sit in the gutter for extended periods. If your gutters are failing before 10 years, you have an installation problem, not a material problem. Call (619) 810-5520 and we’ll diagnose it honestly.
A clean separation at an end cap or miter can sometimes be resealed, but a crushed, sagging, or corroded section should be replaced. Repairs to perforated or stretched aluminum are short-term fixes. The cost difference is small enough that patching usually doesn’t make sense. We’ll tell you straight on the phone if a repair is realistic, and our written quote is free either way.
A single-run replacement takes 2 to 3 hours including setup and cleanup. A full-home gutter replacement, including downspouts, is a one-day job for most San Diego homes. We don’t need you to be home if access to the roof and perimeter is clear, but we’ll always send the technician’s name and photo before arrival so you know exactly who’s at the door either way.
We stock the most common CertainTeed five-inch and six-inch profiles, end caps, hidden hangers, and standard downspout components on our trucks, in white and the most common colors. Special-order colors and less common profiles take 3 to 5 business days. We’ll confirm availability when we schedule your free estimate. Call (619) 810-5520 and a live person answers, 24/7.
