Roofing Before & After in San Diego, CA
Talk is cheap in roofing. Everyone says they do clean work until you see the tear-off pile and the finished ridge line. That’s why we keep this page: real San Diego roofs, real problems, real fixes. From Mission Hills to Chula Vista, the difference between a roof that’s patched and a roof that’s done right shows up in the details. Here’s what that looks like.

Roof Repair: Wind-Lifted Shingles in Clairemont
Before
AfterSanta Ana winds had peeled back a section of three-tab shingles along the north eave, exposing the underlayment to morning marine layer moisture. We removed the compromised shingles, inspected the decking underneath for soft spots, and reinstalled new GAF Timberline shingles with proper nail placement. The repair stops the leak and blends with the existing roof, so the homeowner doesn’t have a patchwork quilt overhead.
Roof Installation: Full Tear-Off in Normal Heights
Before
AfterThis 1920s Spanish-style home was carrying two layers of old composition shingles over original skip sheathing. The weight was stressing the rafters, and the flashing at the chimney had been caulked so many times it looked like candle wax. We tore off both layers, replaced damaged decking, laid new synthetic underlayment, and installed CertainTeed Landmark shingles with new step flashing and a proper cricket behind the chimney. The roofline looks tighter, and the attic finally stays dry.
Roof Repair: Valley Leak in La Mesa
Before
AfterWater was staining the ceiling below a closed valley where two roof planes meet. The old valley metal had corroded through at the seam, and the shingles were nailed too close to the center line, a common mistake that lets water wick sideways. We pulled the valley, installed new 26-gauge galvanized valley metal, and laced the shingles back with correct nail setbacks. No more brown ring on the bedroom ceiling.
Roof Installation: Tile-to-Shingle Conversion in Chula Vista

The original clay tile roof was beautiful but had reached the end of its life, with cracked tiles and failed underlayment causing leaks in three rooms. The homeowner wanted the look without the maintenance and weight. We removed the tile, repaired the decking, and installed Owens Corning Duration shingles in a terracotta color that echoes the original tile. The home keeps its curb appeal and drops a few tons of dead load off the structure.
Roof Repair: Flashing Failure Around a Skylight in Pacific Beach

The homeowner had two other contractors look at the leak around a skylight and re-caulk it. The problem wasn’t the caulk. It was the flashing pan underneath, which had been cut too short and didn’t extend up the skylight curb. We removed the shingles around the skylight, built a proper curb, installed new step flashing and a head flashing, then replaced the shingles. Salt air in PB eats caulk fast, but properly lapped metal doesn’t care.
Roof Installation: Flat Roof to TPO in North Park

A low-slope section over a sunroom addition was covered in old roll roofing that had blistered and split in the San Diego sun. Patching it every summer was a losing game. We stripped the old material, replaced a section of water-damaged plywood, and installed a white TPO membrane with heat-welded seams. The room below stays cooler in summer, and the roof has a single continuous surface with no seams to fail.
